As a freelance SEO consultant I do not have the overheads that many large SEO companies have.

I do not need expensive office premises and nor do I have the overheads associated with employing staff. A large percentage of the one-off and monthly fees charged by large companies goes towards the cost of paying tele-sales staff to generate leads.

My business comes from referrals and from the free natural traffic generated as a result of the organic SEO that I have applied to this site and its individual pages.

I can therefore charge much lower fees for my small business SEO service.

It seems to be the norm, and one that I don’t agree with, that quotes are given automatically based on a monthly SEO fee with a minimum contract of 3-12 months. In many cases once the desired results have been achieved using organic SEO very little ongoing work and expense is required. I think that it is much fairer to calculate a total fee for my SEO service with 50% usually being paid at the start of the project and the balance only being paid on achieving agreed targets. If it transpires that ongoing monthly SEO will be required then the terms can be discussed accordingly.
